Sustainable Tourism Meeting Minutes

The first 'pilot' phase of the Sustainable Tourism Project has now been completed. The pilot operators are now in the implementation phase. Expressions of interest are now being called for the second phase.

8 November

First meeting of phase two including an overview of the project and a guest speaker (Robin McNeil of Venture Southland on Alternative Energy) and questions on specifics about energy answered by Colin Ladbrook of SavePower.

The forth and final workshop in the pilot phase was held in Invercarill at Venture Southland. This was attended mainly by the pilot operators and was a chance for participants to tailor their action plans from the site visit assessments provided by URS Consultants.

The third workshop took place in Te Anau this was attended by pilot operators, steering group members and local body representatives. Vanessa Browne (URS Consultant) outlined the process the project would follow.

The second Environmentally Sustainable Tourism workshop took place in Invercargill. This workshop was held to develop a Sustainable Tourism Charter for the South, this was attended by the steering group, pilot operators and local body and goverment representatives.

4 October 2005

Initial Workshop attended by interested operators, and local bodies. Jerojan Jongejans from Dive Tutukaka (a pilot operator from Northland) joined the meeting along with representatives from The Ministry for the Environment and the Ministry of Tourism to talk about his businesses relationship with the Northland Sustainable Tourism Charter.
